Forensic Investigator Coordinator
Mrs. Cathy Weldon began her higher education via military satellite at Fort Stewart, Georgia while in the U.S. Army. She moved to Florida in 1992. In 2000 and completed her Bachelor’s degree in Criminology, with a minor in Psychology, through St. Leo University, St. Leo, Florida. In 2006 she earned her Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. She achieved Diplomate status in the American Board of Medical Death Investigation (D-ABMDI) at St. Louis, Missouri in 2007 and then Fellowship status in the American Board of Medical Death Investigation (F-ABMDI) at St. Louis, Missouri in 2009.
After leaving the military Cathy began a new career with the Shands HealthCare system in 1997 where she held various positions at Network Development, Human Resources and then Surgical Services. She was appointed to the Chief Investigator position at the District 8 Medical Examiner’s Office in December 2000. Since accepting that position, the Medical Examiner Office was realigned under the University of Florida, College of Medicine’s Pathology Department and the job title changed to Senior Medical Investigator. In February 2011 she joined the University of Florida, College of Medicine’s Pathology Department staff and the job title changed to Forensic Investigator Coordinator. In 2012 she assumed the role of the Director of Investigations/Operations. In July 2012 the department realigned to the University of Florida, College of Medicine Pathology Department, Forensic Medicine Division. She still enjoys the challenges of field investigation and opportunities for training the community and agencies served.
